The Date for the application has been agreed commencing Monday May 17th at 9.30am at The Council House -if you wish to attend contact us so we can assist with transport if needed.

The application is expected to last for up to two weeks. During the Application statements will be read out from local residents who have used Ashton Vale Fields. The people objecting will ask questions and we will have the support of The Barrister representing us. Of course all of this is very new to us, we know people are very anxious, few people given the choice would stand up in a public place and speak, but we have to do this if we want to try and retain this area for local people.

The Village Green Application gives residents a chance to be heard, during all the applications from developers we have faced we have not had any support from any official office. Had we had support we might have known earlier about our right to put in a Town Green Application. How many people up and down the country are oblivious to the plans which are waiting to develop another much loved area. If only we could warn people.

In our travels trying to let people know what is going on here, we have met so many people who have lived in Ashton Vale for sixty or seventy years, people who remember the terrible blitze and the night one side of Ashton Drive was destroyed and people were killed. Of the local Internment Camp and how people be-friended the people living there, the local shops, now mostly gone, the old mining pits and how people have played in those fields doing the same things that people do now. We thought Green Belt meant land was protected from development and so could enjoy suing these fields as our own for years to come.

If you are one of the hundreds of people who use the fields please contact us, time is running out and we need all the help we can get.

You can email here at mail@ashtonvaleheritage.co.uk and we will forward it to the people leading on the Village Green, or email ashtonvalevillagegreen@googlemail.com

If you have any memories you wish to share about Ashton Vale contact us or write in the forum/comments page.
